60+ teacher fellows completed the summer program at Breakthrough Twin Cities
Celebrating Future Teachers with Breakthrough Twin Cities
Breakthrough Twin Cities provides a six-year college access program to support historically under-represented students and their families in the Twin Cities. Through the Teaching Fellowship, the teachers are students.
Breakthrough TC recruits and trains college and select high school students who are passionate about education to get hands on experience teaching two core courses, planning field trips, and special events.
Elevate Teaching joined their professional development fair this month and spoke with Teaching Fellows on career opportunities and what they learned about teaching that they didn't know before the program!
Thanks Breakthrough Twin Cities for providing hands-on experience for the next generation of teachers.

Elevate Teaching team enjoyed meeting attendees at 2024 Leading in Equity, Action, and Diversity (LEAD) conference including keynote speaker, Dr. Gloria Ladson Billings
LEAD Conference Connections
Elevate Teaching joined more than 400 educational leaders who are committed to improve PreK-12 school systems at University of Minnesota’s LEAD conference 2024. We are so grateful for the opportunity to learn from leading scholars in education.
Dr. Gloria Ladson Billings emphasized that justice matters in education which includes increasing the number of black and brown teachers all students should experience. Dr. Anton Treuer exemplified the power of story telling and language to lift up our Native American communities. Dr. Gholdy Muhammad began by asking “How’s your heart?” and envisioned a transformed education system by moving students and educators to genius, justice and joy!
All three powerful keynotes affirmed the vision of Elevate Teaching: A movement grounded in community engagement to amplify the heart of teaching and to shift how we talk about, view and relate to the teaching profession. Elevate Teaching is about advancing educational justice to ensure a diverse and strong teacher workforce for ALL our students.
Elevate Teaching Champion Toolkit Ideas
Curious on how to use your Champion toolkit? Get a small group together over a casual lunch or coffee or meeting and start a conversation. Here are some questions to get you started:
“What teacher made a powerful impact on your life?”
“How has a teacher changed or shaped your life?”
“What role has teaching and learning played in your community?”
“In what ways has learning expanded your creativity?”
“Are there any teachers who helped you develop skills you still use today?”
“What would you share with your past teachers, knowing what you know now?”
Be sure to take a photo and tag us @ElevateTeachingMN so we can share and spread the word on the power and legacy of teachers everywhere!
