Event for Recruiting and Retaining Diverse STEM Teachers
Date: Saturday, April 20
Time: 10 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Science Museum of Minnesota, St. Paul
A group of us STEM education leaders is beginning a campaign to increase interest in those from communities of color and American Indian communities to become teachers of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics for K-12 schools. We received technical training and support from the Smithsonian Science Education Center to plan this campaign. We are also participating in the Minnesota Elevate Teaching project, which developed a message toolkit to shift how we talk about, view and relate to the teaching profession. We would like to focus on STEM Teaching by:
● Working with Grow-your-Own programs in schools and youth STEM programs
● Providing resources for STEM teachers to promote STEM Teaching as a STEM career option to their students, and to support STEM teachers in their pride as an educator AND a STEM professional.
All are welcome, especially those with a focus of Technology, Engineering, and Math. (Includes stipends for participating STEM teachers.) Please help us craft and customize our messages and strategies for these efforts. We look forward to seeing you!
